Full Description
Viola odorata, commonly known as Sweet Violet, is a low-growing perennial prized for its highly fragrant purple, white, or pale blue flowers that appear from late winter into spring. Its heart-shaped foliage forms an attractive mat, making it an excellent groundcover for shaded areas and beneath shrubs. Sweet Violet is easy to grow and naturalises readily, bringing colour and fragrance to the garden when little else is in bloom.
Growing Conditions
Sunlight: Partial shade to full shade; tolerates morning sun.
Water: Regular watering; prefers consistently moist soil but dislikes waterlogging.
Soil: Rich, fertile, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter.
Climate: Performs best in cool to mild climates and tolerates light frost.
Feeding: Apply compost or a balanced fertiliser in spring for vigorous growth.
Spacing: Plant 20–30 cm apart to allow spreading.
