12cm Pot | Trailing / Vining Houseplant | Pet-Safe
Description
Bring regal elegance to your indoor collection with Hoya carnosa ‘Krimson Queen’, a captivating variegated wax plant. This cultivar boasts thick, succulent-like leaves with deep green centers bordered by creamy white edges, often accented with soft pink flushes—especially vivid on fresh new growth. As a graceful trailing or climbing vine, it drapes beautifully from hanging baskets, shelves, or small trellises, eventually reaching 90–180 cm or more indoors.
Something Special
‘Krimson Queen’ earns its royal name through its striking tricolor variegation that intensifies dramatically in brighter light—new leaves emerge with bold pink tones before settling into creamy white margins around the green. This creates a dynamic, ever-changing “crown” effect that’s more pronounced than many other variegated Hoyas. Mature plants produce clusters of star-shaped, waxy flowers in soft pink with deeper centers, releasing a sweet, honey-like fragrance that perfumes the air. Unlike some siblings (like ‘Krimson Princess’), the variegation proudly lines the leaf edges, giving it a bordered, crown-like appearance that’s truly eye-catching.
Growing Conditions
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal (east- or west-facing window preferred). Higher light boosts variegation and pink hues; too much direct sun scorches leaves, while low light fades colors and slows growth.
Water: Let the top 3–5 cm of soil dry out fully between waterings (typically every 1–2 weeks; less often in winter). As a semi-succulent, it tolerates dry spells well but is prone to root rot if overwatered.
Soil: Well-draining, airy mix is essential (e.g., potting soil blended with perlite, orchid bark, or pumice). Slightly acidic to neutral pH works best.
Humidity & Temperature: Moderate to high humidity (40–60%+; occasional misting or pebble tray helps). Thrives at 16–29°C; keep above 10–13°C and away from cold drafts.
Fertilizer: Apply diluted balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during spring and summer; none needed in fall/winter.
Other Tips: Easy propagation from stem cuttings in water or soil. Prefers being slightly root-bound—repot sparingly. Leave old flower peduncles intact, as new blooms often emerge from the same spurs. Low-maintenance and forgiving, perfect for beginners or collectors.
A beautiful, rewarding addition to any space—ideal for bright Cape Town homes or offices. Available now in 12cm pots at our nursery! 🌿✨
