Purple Wisteria

A spectacular, deciduous climber producing beautiful cascading clusters of fragrant purple to mauve flowers. Wisteria is vigorous and long-lived, making a stunning feature over pergolas, arches, walls and sturdy garden structures.

Growing conditions:
🌿 Light: Full sun is best for the strongest growth and most abundant flowering. It will tolerate light shade, but flowering may be reduced.
🌱 Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil that retains some moisture. Avoid areas that remain permanently waterlogged.
💧 Water: Water regularly while establishing, especially during hot or dry periods. Established plants are more tolerant of dry conditions.
🌸 Feeding: Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser or flowering-plant fertiliser. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage leafy growth rather than flowers.
✂️ Pruning: Regular pruning helps control this vigorous climber and encourages flowering. Pruning twice a year is ideal.
🏡 Support: Provide a strong, permanent support such as a pergola, arch, wall trellis or sturdy wires. Mature wisteria becomes very substantial and needs good support.
🍂 Foliage: Deciduous — it loses its leaves in winter and produces fresh foliage again in spring.

Wisteria can take a few years to settle and flower, but with patience and the right conditions it can become one of the most spectacular features in the garden.
