Description
Variegated String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus ‘Variegatus’) – Growing Conditions
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect sunlight or filtered light. Can tolerate some morning sun, but protect from harsh afternoon rays to avoid leaf burn.
Watering:
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly—overwatering can lead to root rot. Use the “soak and dry” method.
Soil:
Requires a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. A mix with added perlite or pumice improves drainage and aeration.
Humidity:
Thrives in low to average humidity. Avoid high humidity environments.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–24°C (65–75°F). Protect from frost; minimum temperature 10°C (50°F).
Fertilizer:
Feed with a diluted succulent fertilizer during the active growing season (spring and summer), once a month.
Other Notes:
Best grown in hanging baskets or well-ventilated containers to show off the trailing stems.
Variegation is enhanced with brighter light, but avoid direct scorching sun.
Non-toxic, but still best kept out of reach of pets and children.
