Description
🌸 Streptocarpus (Cape Primrose) – Growing Conditions
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun, especially in summer, as it can scorch the leaves. Ideal for east- or north-facing windows indoors, or shaded areas outdoors.
Temperature:
Thrives in mild temperatures, ideally between 15°C to 25°C. Protect from frost and extreme heat.
Watering:
Keep soil evenly moist, but not soggy. Allow the top inch to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering slightly in winter.
Humidity:
Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, or grouped with other humidity-loving plants. Avoid misting directly on the leaves.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, light potting mix, such as African violet soil. Good aeration is key to prevent root rot.
Fertilizer:
Feed every 2–4 weeks during the growing season (spring to autumn) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
Pruning & Maintenance:
Remove spent flowers and old leaves to encourage new blooms. Repot annually or when root-bound.
Flowering:
Blooms prolifically from spring through fall with proper care, and often indoors year-round.
