Description
Pachira aquatica (Money Tree) — Growing Conditions
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate medium light indoors but growth will be slower. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Temperature:
Thrives in warm conditions between 18–30°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 12°C.
Watering:
Water thoroughly when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Do not allow the plant to stand in water. Reduce watering in cooler months. Pachira prefers slightly moist soil but is sensitive to overwatering.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, rich potting mix. A blend of potting soil with added perlite or coarse sand works well.
Humidity:
Enjoys moderate to high humidity but adapts to normal indoor levels. Benefits from occasional misting in dry environments.
Fertilizing:
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Do not overfeed.
Growth Habit:
Upright, woody plant often sold with braided stems. Forms a rounded leafy canopy. Suitable for pots and indoor feature planting.
Pruning:
Prune lightly to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove yellow or damaged leaves as needed.
Use:
Excellent indoor feature plant for homes, offices, and shaded patios. Popular as a decorative and symbolic “Money Tree.”
Care Notes:
Avoid soggy soil — root rot is the most common problem. Ensure pots have good drainage. Rotate occasionally for even growth. 🌿
