Description
🌸 Mandevilla laxa – Chilean Jasmine
Description:
A vigorous, twining climber admired for its highly fragrant, pure white trumpet-shaped flowers that appear in summer and autumn. Its perfume is strongest in the evening, making it a wonderful choice for patios, pergolas, or trellises where the scent can be enjoyed.
Growing Conditions:
Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade.
Water: Water regularly during the growing season; prefers evenly moist but well-drained soil. More drought tolerant once established.
Soil: Grows best in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost.
Climate: Prefers warm, frost-free conditions. Protect from heavy frost or grow in a container that can be moved under cover in winter.
Size: Can reach 3–5 m when supported.
Maintenance: Train onto a trellis or support. Light pruning after flowering will encourage bushier growth and more blooms. Feed with a balanced fertiliser during the growing season.
Uses:
Perfect for covering fences, walls, or pergolas. Ideal near outdoor living areas where the evening fragrance can be enjoyed.
