Growing Conditions
SUNLIGHT
Bright, indirect light to partial shade; avoid direct sunlight which scorches fronds
WATERING
Keep soil consistently moist, watering 2-3 times weekly in summer, weekly in winter; never allow to dry out completely
SOIL TYPE
Rich, well-draining organic potting mix with high peat or coco coir content and added perlite
TEMPERATURE
12–28°C; tolerates brief drops to 10°C but suffers below this
HUMIDITY
Prefers 60–80% humidity; mist fronds regularly or use a pebble tray in drier interior conditions
FERTILISING
Every 2-3 weeks during spring and summer with half-strength liquid fertiliser; monthly in winter
GROWTH RATE
Fast; can produce 10-15 cm of new frond growth per month during active growing season
MATURE SIZE
1.2–1.5 m height x 1.2–1.8 m spread
Indoor Suitability
This fern thrives indoors in bright, indirect light and adds dramatic tropical appeal to spacious interiors. Its large size makes it ideal for entrance halls, atriums, or well-lit bathrooms where humidity is naturally higher.
Did You Know?
The ‘Macho’ cultivar produces fronds that can grow up to 1.8 metres long with individual pinnae (leaflets) reaching 20 cm, making it one of the largest cultivated indoor ferns available and earning its bold name from sheer size alone.
