Hydrangea macrophylla is a deciduous, rounded shrub that thrives in bright, filtered light or morning sun with afternoon shade. It prefers rich, well-drained soil that stays consistently moist, especially during the warmer months. Flower colour can be influenced by soil pH, with more acidic soils tending to produce blue or purple flowers and alkaline soils producing pinker flowers. Protect from harsh afternoon sun and hot, drying conditions.
