Description
FICUS BENJAMINA ‘VARIEGATA’ (VARIEGATED WEEPING FIG)
Growing Conditions
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light for best variegation. Can tolerate some gentle morning sun, but harsh direct sunlight may scorch the leaves. Too little light can cause leaf drop and fading of the variegation.
Watering:
Water moderately, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering, as soggy soil can lead to root rot. Reduce watering during cooler months.
Soil:
Thrives in well-draining, fertile soil. A quality potting mix enriched with organic matter works best.
Temperature & Climate:
Best suited to warm, frost-free climates. Ideal temperature range is 15–30 °C. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, which may cause leaf drop.
Humidity:
Enjoys moderate humidity. In dry conditions, occasional misting will help keep foliage healthy and glossy.
Feeding:
Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer to encourage healthy growth and vibrant leaf colour.
Pruning & Maintenance:
Prune to maintain shape and size, especially when grown as a bush or hedge. Responds well to regular trimming. Remove dead or yellowing leaves as needed.
Growth Habit:
An evergreen, bushy plant with arching branches and attractive green-and-cream variegated foliage. Suitable for containers, patios, indoor bright spaces, or sheltered garden areas.
Pest & Disease Care:
Generally hardy, but may attract scale, aphids, or mealybugs. Inspect regularly and treat early if pests appear.
