Did You Know?
Dahlias were so highly prized in 18th century Europe that the Spanish botanist who introduced them from Mexico to Madrid kept the tubers under armed guard, yet despite these efforts, they were eventually stolen and distributed across the continent, making them one of history’s most successfully ‘pirated’ ornamental plants.
