Chrysalidocarpus lutescens – Bamboo Palm
Sun: Bright, indirect light to partial shade. Protect from harsh afternoon sun, especially when young.
Water: Moderate; keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between watering.
Soil: Rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter.
Height: 2–4 m indoors; up to 6–8 m outdoors in suitable conditions.
Width: 1.5–3 m.
Growth: Clumping, upright and graceful with multiple slender, bamboo-like stems.
Flowering: Small yellow flowers on mature plants, followed by small yellow-orange to purple fruits.
Features: Attractive feathery foliage; excellent tropical and indoor foliage plant; helps create a lush, green look.
Indigenous: No – native to Madagascar.
Edible: No – not grown as an edible plant.
Care: Feed during the growing season. Keep away from cold drafts and provide good humidity. Remove old or damaged fronds at the base.
Frost: Frost tender; protect from temperatures below 10°C.
Best for: Indoor spaces, patios, shaded gardens, containers and tropical-style planting.
