Calathea louisae – Growing Conditions
Sun: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water: Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top layer begins to dry. Use lukewarm, preferably filtered or rainwater.
Soil: Rich, well-draining, moisture-retentive soil with plenty of organic matter.
Height: 40–60 cm
Width: 40–60 cm
Growth: Clumping, compact and upright.
Features: Beautiful patterned foliage with attractive purple-toned undersides. Excellent for adding colour and texture to indoor spaces.
Indigenous: No – tropical South American origin.
Edible: No – grown as an ornamental plant.
Care: Enjoys warmth, humidity and stable conditions. Protect from cold draughts, air-conditioners and sudden temperature changes. Mist or provide additional humidity in dry conditions.
Frost: Not frost tolerant. Protect below 10°C.
Best for: Indoor spaces, bathrooms, offices and shaded patios with bright, filtered light.
