Description
🌿 Sword Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata) – Growing Conditions
The Sword Fern is a lush, hardy, evergreen fern known for its gracefully arching fronds and air-purifying qualities. Ideal for both indoor and shaded outdoor settings, it thrives in the following conditions:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or dappled shade. Tolerates full shade. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the fronds.
- Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top layer feels slightly dry. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely.
- Soil: Grows best in rich, well-draining soil with high organic content. Slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5–6.5) is ideal.
- Humidity: Enjoys high humidity levels. Mist regularly or place near a humidifier, especially indoors.
- Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 15°C and 26°C. Protect from frost and cold drafts.
- Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Position: Suitable for shaded garden beds, hanging baskets, or as a lush indoor houseplant.
