Growing Information

Position / Sunlight:

Thrives in warm, humid climates.

Prefers full sun (6–8 hours daily) for optimal growth, but tolerates partial shade.

Low-maintenance once established.

Soil:

Prefers well-draining soil, sandy loam or loamy types, enriched with organic matter.

Slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0) is ideal.

Watering:

Drought-tolerant once established, but benefits from regular watering during dry periods.

Keep soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging.

Mulching:

Apply 2–5 cm of organic mulch (e.g., pine bark) around the base to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Keep mulch away from the stem to prevent rot.

Fertilising:

Fertilise regularly with a balanced or slow-release “all plant” fertiliser to support healthy growth and fruiting.

Pruning:

Prune annually to maintain shape, remove dead or damaged branches, and improve airflow within the canopy.

Pollination:

Insect-pollinated flowers, mostly by bees and butterflies.

Planting multiple trees may improve fruit production.

Pests & Diseases:

Use EM Control preventatively for pests like aphids or scale insects.

Hose down affected areas for minor infestations and ensure good airflow to reduce fungal problems.

Harvesting / Use:

Berries are ready when green-to-yellow and can be used as a natural soap for cleaning or cosmetic purposes.

Handle with care to preserve saponin content.
