Salvia chamelaeagnea – Rough Sage
A tough, waterwise South African shrub with soft grey-green foliage and abundant violet-blue flower spikes in spring and summer. Rough Sage is highly aromatic and attracts bees, butterflies and sugarbirds, making it perfect for wildlife-friendly gardens.
Position: Full sun
Water: Low; drought-tolerant once established
Soil: Well-drained, sandy or loamy
Height: ±1–1.5m
Use: Fynbos gardens, borders, coastal areas, rockeries
Maintenance: Light prune after flowering
