Description

Plumbago (Plumbago auriculata) – Growing Conditions

Light:
Plumbago thrives in full sun, needing at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for the best flowering. It can tolerate partial shade but may bloom less vigorously.

Water:
Moderate water needs. Water regularly during dry spells, especially while establishing. Once mature, it becomes somewhat drought-tolerant, but benefits from occasional deep watering.

Soil:
Prefers well-draining soil rich in organic matter. It tolerates a variety of soil types, including sandy and loamy soils, but dislikes waterlogged roots.

Temperature:
Loves warm climates and is frost-sensitive. Ideal for subtropical to tropical regions. In colder areas, it can be grown in containers and overwintered indoors or treated as an annual.

Pruning:
Responds well to regular pruning, which encourages bushier growth and more flowers. Cut back in late winter or early spring.

Fertilizer:
Feed with a balanced fertilizer in spring and mid-summer to boost flowering.

Landscape use:
Excellent for hedges, screens, trellises, or cascading over walls. Its sky-blue flowers attract butterflies and brighten up any sunny garden spot.
