Description
Graceful late-season perennial with saucer-shaped pure white flowers (7–10 cm across) and golden-yellow central stamens. Blooms appear on tall, wiry stems above mounds of dark green, lobed foliage. ‘Honorine Jobert’ (from 1858) is a classic, reliable white variety, named Perennial Plant of the Year in 2016.
Growing Conditions
Light: Full sun to partial shade. Morning sun with afternoon shade works best in warmer areas to avoid leaf scorch; full sun is fine in cooler climates. Protect from strong winds.
Soil: Rich, humus-rich, evenly moist but well-drained. Add organic matter for fertility; tolerates clay if drainage is good. Neutral to slightly alkaline pH preferred. Avoid dry or waterlogged soil.
Water: Consistent moisture — keep soil evenly moist, especially during growth and bloom. Mulch to retain moisture and cool roots. Do not let it dry out.
Planting: Spring or autumn. Plant at the same depth as in the pot; space 45–60 cm apart.
Care Tips
Low-maintenance once established.
Light spring fertilizer or compost.
Deadhead for extended bloom; cut back foliage in late winter/early spring.
Mulch annually.
Pest-resistant; deer/rabbits usually avoid it. Slugs may affect young shoots.
Spreads slowly via rhizomes — divide every 3–5 years if needed.
Bloom Time & Interest
Late summer to autumn (5–8 weeks), adding airy elegance and movement (“windflower”) when other plants fade. Attracts pollinators; good for borders or cut flowers.
