Description

White heliotrope (Heliotropium arborescens) is a beautiful flowering plant that requires specific growing conditions to thrive in the Western Cape:
1. Sunlight: White heliotrope prefers full sun to partial shade. It should receive at least 6 hours of sunlight daily for optimal growth and flowering.
2. Soil: Well-draining soil is crucial for white heliotrope. It thrives in fertile, loamy soil with good drainage. Adding organic matter like compost can improve soil structure and fertility.
3. Watering: While white heliotrope prefers slightly moist soil, it’s important not to overwater, as it can lead to root rot. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, and water deeply but infrequently.
4. Temperature: White heliotrope grows best in moderate temperatures. It can tolerate some heat but may suffer in extreme heatwaves. Protecting it from strong winds is also advisable.
5. Fertilization: Regular fertilization during the growing season can encourage healthy growth and flowering. Use a balanced fertilizer or one with slightly higher phosphorus content to promote blooming.
6. Pruning: Prune white heliotrope regularly to maintain its shape
