Description

Heidi Mango – Juicy, Fibreless & Late-Season Delight
Botanical Name: Mangifera indica ‘Heidi’
Fruit Season: Late season (January–March in South Africa)
Description:
Heidi is a standout late-season mango variety known for its large, rosy-red fruit and virtually fibreless, sweet, juicy flesh. This South African favourite ripens when most other varieties are finished, making it perfect for extending the mango season. Its lush, evergreen foliage adds a tropical touch to any garden or orchard.
Growing Conditions:
Sunlight: Thrives in full sun. Plant in a spot that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Soil: Prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid waterlogged or heavy clay soils.
Watering: Water deeply during dry periods, especially while fruit is forming. Reduce watering in winter.
Frost Sensitivity: Young trees are highly frost-sensitive. Provide frost protection in colder regions. Mature trees tolerate light frost.
Feeding: Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring and midseason. Mulch with compost to retain moisture and enrich the soil.
Spacing: Allow at least 6–8 meters between trees to accommodate their wide canopy.
Special Features:
Late-season harvest extends mango availability
Fibreless, rich-flavoured fruit with deep orange flesh
Attractive red-blushed skin
Excellent for eating fresh, juicing, or desserts
Tip: Heidi mango trees are slow to bear but worth the wait – they produce large, showy fruit with outstanding taste. Ideal for mango lovers who want a high-quality, late-ripening variety in the garden or orchard.
