Description
🌿 Cotyledon tomentosa – Bear’s Paw
Description:
Cotyledon tomentosa, commonly known as Bear’s Paw, is a charming succulent with thick, fuzzy leaves shaped like tiny animal paws, each tipped with reddish “claws.” Its compact, bushy growth makes it a standout choice for pots, rock gardens, or sunny windowsills.
Height & Spread:
Grows up to 15–30 cm tall and spreads 30–60 cm wide when mature.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in bright light or full sun. Indoors, place near a sunny window to maintain its compact shape and leaf color.
Watering:
Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Avoid overwatering, as this plant is prone to root rot.
Soil:
Prefers well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Add perlite or sand to improve drainage if needed.
Flowering:
Produces bell-shaped flowers in spring to early summer, usually orange to reddish-orange in color. Flowers appear on short stalks and add a beautiful contrast to the soft green foliage.
Temperature:
Enjoys warm conditions but should be protected from frost. Ideal range: 15–25°C.
Feeding:
Fertilize lightly during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted succulent fertilizer.
Special Care:
For best results, give the plant a cool, dry rest period in winter and plenty of light to encourage flowering.
