Description
Bougainvillea – Growing Conditions
Light:
Bougainvillea thrives in full sun. It needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to produce abundant blooms.
Water:
Water regularly during the growing season, but allow the soil to dry slightly between watering. Once established, Bougainvillea is drought-tolerant and prefers less frequent watering.
Soil:
Plant in well-draining soil. A sandy or loamy mix enriched with compost works best. Avoid heavy, waterlogged soil as it can cause root rot.
Temperature:
Prefers warm climates and does not tolerate frost. Ideal growing temperatures range from 20°C to 30°C. Protect from cold winds and frost during winter.
Fertilizer:
Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer or a low-nitrogen, high-phosphorus formula to encourage flowering.
Pruning:
Prune after flowering to shape the plant and encourage new growth. Regular trimming helps maintain size and promotes blooming.
Position:
Ideal for outdoor planting in gardens, containers, or trained along trellises and walls. It can also be grown in large pots on patios.
