Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ – Growing Conditions

Light Requirements
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its striking silver foliage. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. It can tolerate medium light but growth will be slower.

Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist, allowing only the top 2–3 cm to dry out between watering. Do not let the plant sit in water—Alocasia are prone to root rot. Use lukewarm, low-mineral water where possible.

Humidity
Thrives in high humidity (60–80%). Dry air may cause leaf edges to brown. Ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, or areas with added humidity from a humidifier or pebble tray.

Temperature
Enjoys warm conditions between 18–28 °C. Avoid temperatures below 15 °C, cold drafts, or sudden fluctuations, as this can lead to leaf drop.

Soil
Needs a well-draining, airy mix rich in organic matter. Ideal mixes include a combination of coco coir or peat, perlite or pumice, orchid bark, and a small amount of compost. The mix should retain moisture without becoming compacted.

Fertiliser
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. Pause feeding in winter when growth slows noticeably.

Growth Habit
A compact, exotic aroid with thick, textured leaves in silver-grey tones and dark green veining. Typically grows 30–40 cm tall and forms a neat clumping growth pattern.

Care Notes
Wipe leaves gently to keep them dust-free. Rotate the pot every few weeks for even growth. Sensitive to overwatering and cold; ensure good airflow around the plant and avoid waterlogged soil.
