Description
Growing Conditions – Alocasia cuprea ‘Red Secret’
Light:
Enjoys bright, indirect light. The metallic, deep red foliage colours best when exposed to filtered brightness. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves.
Water:
Maintain soil that is evenly moist but never soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil begins to dry out. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot, especially during cooler months.
Humidity:
Requires high humidity (60–80%) to thrive. Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or regular misting to maintain leaf quality and prevent crisping edges.
Temperature:
Prefers warm temperatures between 18–28 °C. Protect from cold drafts and keep away from temperatures below 16 °C, as cold can slow growth and damage foliage.
Soil:
Use a loose, well-draining aroid mix—rich potting soil blended with orchid bark, coco peat, and perlite. Soil should hold moisture but drain freely.
Fertiliser:
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength. Pause feeding in autumn and winter.
Growth Habit:
Compact Alocasia with stunning metallic copper-red leaves that have a glossy, armour-like texture. Ideal as a statement indoor plant.
Special Care:
Wipe leaves gently to maintain shine. Rotate the plant monthly for even growth. Remove yellow or damaged leaves at the base.
