Alocasia baginda – Growing Conditions

Light Requirements
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight will scorch the leaves, while low light slows growth and reduces leaf colour intensity.

Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist, allowing the top 2–3 cm to dry before watering again. Avoid waterlogging at all times—Alocasia baginda is sensitive to root rot. Use room-temperature water for best results.

Humidity
Requires high humidity (60–80%) to maintain its thick, textured foliage. If indoor air is dry, increase humidity with a humidifier, pebble tray, or by grouping plants.

Temperature
Grows best in warm conditions between 18–28 °C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15 °C, as this may cause the plant to go dormant or drop leaves.

Soil
Prefers a light, airy, well-draining mix rich in organic matter. Ideal components include coco coir or peat, orchid bark, perlite or pumice, and a small amount of compost. Soil should stay moist but never compacted.

Fertiliser
Feed every 4 weeks during spring and summer using a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength. Reduce feeding in the cooler months when growth naturally slows.

Growth Habit
A compact tropical aroid known for its deeply textured, armour-like leaves in silvery green with dark veining. Forms a clumping growth pattern and typically reaches 30–40 cm in height indoors.

Care Notes
Avoid overwatering and cold exposure. Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and rotate monthly for even growth. Provide good airflow but keep away from harsh drafts.
