Description
Growing Conditions – Alocasia amazonica ‘Bambino’
Light:
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the foliage. Performs well in dappled light or a well-lit room with filtered sunlight.
Water:
Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels slightly dry. Reduce watering in winter. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
Humidity:
Prefers high humidity (60–80%). Mist occasionally, use a pebble tray, or place near a humidifier to keep the leaf edges from browning.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–28 °C. Protect from cold drafts and keep away from temperatures below 15 °C, as this can cause leaf drop.
Soil:
Use a well-aerated, fast-draining mix such as premium potting soil blended with orchid bark and perlite. The aim is moisture retention without sogginess.
Fertiliser:
Feed every 4 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser at half strength. Do not fertilise in winter when growth slows.
Growth Habit:
Compact Alocasia variety with upright arrow-shaped leaves featuring dramatic dark green colouring and bold light veins. Excellent for small indoor spaces.
Special Care:
Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust. Rotate the pot monthly to encourage even growth. Prune yellowing leaves at the base as needed.
