Description

French Lavender (Lavandula dentata) – Fragrant Elegance for Your Garden
French Lavender, or Lavandula dentata, is a popular variety prized for its aromatic, toothed foliage and distinctive lavender blooms topped with elegant bracts Its compact size and long-lasting flowers make it an excellent choice for garden borders, containers, or as an ornamental hedge.
Growing Conditions:
Light: French Lavender thrives in full sun. It requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to produce its best blooms and maintain its fragrance.
Soil: Prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soils with a slightly alkaline to neutral pH. Avoid heavy, clay soils that retain too much moisture.
Water: Drought-tolerant once established. Water sparingly allows the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot.
Temperature: French Lavender thrives in warm, dry climates and is more tolerant of humidity than other lavender varieties. It can tolerate light frosts but is sensitive to harsh winters.
Pruning: Lightly prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Remove faded blooms regularly to promote more flowers.
Fertilizer: French Lavender is low-maintenance in terms of feeding. Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer once a year in spring if needed.
Spacing: Space plants 45-60 cm apart to allow for good air circulation and healthy growth.
This delightful lavender variety is not only visually appealing but also perfect for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. Its aromatic leaves make it a favorite for fragrant gardens and herb beds.
