Description

Cara Cara Orange Tree (Citrus sinensis ‘Cara Cara’)
Description: Cara Cara oranges are prized for their sweet, low-acid flavor and striking pinkish-red flesh. This unique variety of navel orange offers a delicious, berry-like taste, making it a favorite among citrus lovers. The tree produces medium-sized fruit with a thin, easy-to-peel skin, ideal for fresh eating, juicing, and adding to salads or desserts.
Growing Conditions:
Sunlight: Full sun (at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day). Choose a sunny, sheltered spot to protect the tree from strong winds.
Soil: Prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soil. Ensure the soil is rich in organic matter and slightly acidic (pH 6.0–7.0).
Watering: Regular watering is needed, especially during the first few years. Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging. Deep watering is best.
Temperature: Thrives in warm climates, ideally in temperatures between 18°C to 32°C (65°F to 90°F). Protect from frost or provide frost cloth during cold spells.
Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, citrus-specific fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid over-fertilizing as it may affect fruit production.
Pruning: Light pruning in late winter or early spring helps maintain shape and improve air circulation.
Harvest: Fruit typically ripens in late autumn to early winter. Harvest when the oranges are fully colored and easy to detach from the tree.
Care Tip: Mulch around the base of the tree to retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep mulch away from the trunk to avoid rot.
