Raspberries: A Sweet, Garden-Friendly Delight

Raspberries are a joy to grow, offering bursts of vibrant color and deliciously sweet fruit that’s perfect for fresh eating, jams, and desserts. These perennial favorites thrive in rich, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic pH (5.5–6.5). To get the best yields, plant them in full sun, though they can handle a bit of afternoon shade.

Spacing is important—give each plant about 60 cm apart in rows, with 1.5-2 meters between rows to allow for air circulation and ease of harvest. Raspberries are low-maintenance but do appreciate a good mulch to keep their roots cool and retain moisture, which is key during their fruiting period. Regular watering, especially in hot months, will keep the berries plump and juicy.

These plants are cold-hardy, ideal for zones 4-8, and thrive in cooler climates, where they produce their best fruit. For ongoing production, prune back the canes that have fruited at the end of the season. With a bit of care, your raspberry patch will reward you with sweet, homegrown berries year after year.
