Monstera adansonii – Growing Conditions
Indoor / Outdoor: Both – best indoors or in a sheltered, warm outdoor position.
Sun: Bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Water: Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep evenly moist but never waterlogged. Reduce watering in cooler months.
Soil: Rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter. A chunky, airy mix is ideal.
Height: 1–3 m when climbing.
Width: 60–100 cm, depending on support and growing conditions.
Growth: Fast-growing, trailing or climbing vine. Provide a moss pole, trellis or other support for larger leaves and stronger growth.
Features: Attractive heart-shaped leaves with distinctive natural holes; excellent tropical foliage plant.
Indigenous: No – native to tropical Central and South America.
Edible: No – toxic if ingested; keep away from pets and children.
Care: Provide warmth, humidity and good air circulation. Wipe leaves occasionally and support the stems as the plant climbs. Pinch or prune long stems to encourage fuller growth.
Frost: Frost tender. Protect from cold temperatures and keep above approximately 10°C.
Best for: Indoor plant displays, hanging baskets, shaded patios, tropical gardens and climbing up a support.
